When you go to dine at your favorite restaurant, you may expect to see rows of wine bottles sitting behind the restaurant bar. Soujorn, a restaurant in New York's Upper East Side, is taking steps towards being green by serving its patrons wine straight from the barrel.
Not only do the barrels contain about 12 liters of wine, they are also energy efficient by reducing the carbon footprint in producing a bottle of wine. The barrels cut back on using raw materials such as glass and cork which reduces the energy to produce them. The barrels also weigh less than a case of wine which means the fuel needed to transport the wine to the restaurants is significantly less.
The barrel of wine, from DeLoach Vineyards, is changing the way wine is being packaged by being more environmentally friendly. So when you take a sip of your next pinot grigio from DeLoach, that warm, fuzzy feeling you get is from knowing you're helping the out environment.
